Born and raised in Buffalo, New York, Coach Kanalley attended Cardinal Dougherty High School and graduated in 1974. He played collegiate tennis and received a B.S. degree in Chemistry from Canisius College and has coached both boy's and girl's basketball, baseball, softball, tennis, volleyball and soccer for over 30 years. Coach Kanalley is currently employeed by Bartech, working at The Delphi Plant in Lockport as a chemist in the Materials Engineering Laboratory. He is also currently employed by Mount Saint Mary Academy High School as the JV Girl's Basketball Coach, as well as the assistant Varsity Girl's Basketball Coach. He plays basketball weekly to stay in shape and carries his love for the game of basketball, by playing in the University at Buffalo Master Tournament every year. He met his wife Karen, while coaching at D'Youville College and they have two children, Craig and Melissa. Coach Kanalley has been with the Buffalo Defenders organization for over six years now. He has coached a 13U, 14U 15U and a 16U team in his previous seasons. His philosophy towards the game of basketball, coincides with his coaching beliefs for all team oriented sports, which is based on the late, legendary Men's basketball coach John Wooden's Pyramid of Success (www.coachwooden.com). His coaching style is centered on positive re-enforcement, always stressing the fundamentals of basketball, with his overall goal to always put his players in a position to succeed both on and off the court.
